Following a knee injury I had the good fortune of being sent by my GP to see Mr Mahmud. From our first meeting it was clear that he was a consummate professional. Not only was he immaculately dressed, he spoke clearly in plain English and more importantly listened to me as a patient. He quickly diagnosed my condition and arranged an MRI scan. Once the results were back he explained my condition and suggested options that were best suited to me. In the end I decided to plum for the least intrusive option of an Arthroscopy to tidy up and repair my torn meniscus and review the condition of the arthritis within my knee. Before surgery, he visited and put me at ease explaining clearly what procedure he would be completing. Post surgery I was expecting discomfort and pain, in fact I walk out less than three hours later and only had a paracetamol as a precaution. As a result i now have mo discomfort, my knee doesn't lock or give way. It is now only five weeks since surgery and along with some physio sessions I'm ready to return to work as a firefighter. Thank you Mr Mahmud, a true gent and fantastic surgeon.

Mr. Mahmud replaced my right hip last year so when I needed a total knee replacement I didn't hesitate in going back to Mr. Mahmud. I had great care and he always listens to any questions you have and explains everything in detail , the pros and the cons! I would highly recommend him.

After slipping in the shower, two years previously, I was referred to Mr. Tahir Mahmud at the Spire Regency Hospital, Macclesfield. Mr Mahmud's interpersonal skills were evident from the very first consultation. I had already been made aware of his professional and surgical skill, by a Doctor whom I have known since 23rd December 1974. During my initial consultation with Mr Mahmud, the damage to my right hip, and the procedure for Hip Replacement and post operative care were discussed. It was evident from Mr Mahmud's conversational skills that he was a caring and respectful human being. As a result on 24 January 2019 when I arrived at the hospital for my operation, I was confident that I would receive excellent care, kindness and attention. When twelve weeks after my operation, I returned to my Zumba, class, my Zumba instructor was amazed and said that your Surgeon has done a brilliant job. It is so wonderful after two very long years, to be pain free and to get on with living life. Thank you to Mr. Mahmud and all the staff at Spire Regency.

Many years ago I ruptured my cruciate ligament in my right knee. I learned to adapt to my injury until I had a nasty fall which damaged my knee quite badly. The consultant at that time said I was too young to have a replacement knee. I persevered for quite a few years, but it was extremely painful more or less all of the time and the distance I could walk became limited. I had wearing on the inside lower parts of the bone (Tibia), to such an extent, that it bowed to just over 30 degrees which was not only painful and troublesome but also made me feel embarrassed and knocked my confidence. The pain from the knee started to keep me awake at night on a regular basis. Due to the pain and its effects on my well being, the doctor referred me to Mr Mahmud. Mr Mahmud agreed that now is the best time to replace my knee, though he explained it would be a ‘Full Complex Replacement’. This really concerned me and dominated my thoughts as I had never had major surgery like this before. My worries were alleviated as Mr Mahmud and his team were with me every step of the way. From the initial nursing staff, to the anesthetist, Mr Mahmud and his surgical staff all put my mind at ease by explaining everything fully. The operation was a great success. I was up and walking with the aid of crutches within hours and allowed to go home within 24 hours. The recovery then started. The exercises were explained and practiced and the pain controlled through medication. I had a good recovery period and also set myself goals, distances to walk and sets of strengthening exercises etc. It wasn't too long before I was able to walk quite a way without any aids. My confidence levels in my ability to walk as the pain subsided and the fact that my leg was now straight for the first time in years felt fantastic. Within months I felt confident enough to embark on a walking holiday in the Gower Peninsula where we were walking around 8 to 10 miles per day with no ill effects. I am so grateful to Mr Mahmud and his team and I cannot recommend their expertise, kindness and complete professionalism highly enough to others who may be undergoing similar surgical procedures. Their continued aftercare was also critical in my full recovery and their instructions and guidance to support this was paramount in me reaching the stage where I am now completely pain free and live an active and full life once more.

I had knee arthroscopy + partial medial meniscectomy. Fantastic service and care from Mr Mahmud and all his staff. My knee is nearly perfect after just 6 weeks and only needed 1 physio session.
